Apprentice ZATOICHI91’s Speech
Our Maxim: Nothing is True; Everything is Permitted.
Welcome, fellow Assassins, to my Synchronisation. Today I will be going over our Maxim and what it could also possibly mean.
My fellow Assassins, our Maxim states that we are the shepherds of our own actions and that society is fragile—but could it mean more?
The Assassins are taught that they are the harbingers of freedom and light. However, they are also taught that, in order to attain peace, they must do whatever it takes. This implies that the Assassins are simply made out to be what they are trained to be.
The part “Nothing is True” could imply that everything we know and love may merely be an illusion brought about by someone else. With that in mind, our teachers, and those beyond them, could be the architects behind this illusion.
However, we ourselves are the masters of what we believe to be the truth. We control society as a whole, and we are the ones who decide what is right and wrong.
With this understanding, I have come to see that, instead of accepting opinions and blind truths, we can become the masters of our future by continuing to do what we believe in.
When I first joined the Brotherhood, I learned from my personal errors and attempts, just like everyone else. Through those experiences, I came to the foundation of the ideal I am sharing with you today.
The part “Everything is Permitted” could imply that all we know consists either of lies told to us by the architects of our doom, the lessons of people who have learned from their mistakes, or the truth we decide to accept and the future that awaits us.
All answers are out there, but we ourselves are the ones who decide what that truth is.
