Record of the Gathering
The Levantine Assassins Brotherhood was entering a period of continued change and adaptation. These developments were intended to strengthen the Brotherhood and guide it towards a future suitable for those already within its ranks and those who shared its ideals.
This gathering was not intended to be the final Synchronisation. Further events would follow as the Brotherhood continued examining its direction, traditions and responsibilities.
The event was hosted by Master Assassin Kalixin and focused upon the principal tenets of the Creed. His address instructed the Brotherhood in the purpose of each tenet, beginning with the command:
“Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent.”
Each tenet represents a clear and essential part of the Assassin’s conduct, the success of the Brotherhood’s operations and the preservation of its members.
Master Assassin Kalixin’s Speech
Welcome, brothers and sisters, to this Synchronisation.
I will be speaking about the Creed, which serves as our doctrine and code of conduct. More specifically, I will be discussing its three tenets.
These tenets are crucial to what it means to be a Levantine Assassin. They guide the successful completion of our operations, the mastery of our emotions and the continued well-being of the Brotherhood.
Tenet I — Stay Your Blade from the Flesh of an Innocent
The goal of the Levantine Brotherhood is to preserve harmony above all else. For this to occur, innocent bystanders must not be slain in pursuit of our objectives.
The unnecessary slaughter of citizens and travellers can create division among our own members and tarnish the reputation of the Brotherhood.
Our struggle is against oppression, not against those who have taken no part in it.
Tenet II — Hide in Plain Sight
As an Assassin, your priority is to remain unseen.
You must blend into your surroundings and conceal your intentions while acting against those who threaten our cause. Being discovered while attempting to eliminate a target makes the operation more difficult and may place the entire mission in jeopardy.
An Assassin who remains concealed protects not only themselves, but also their allies and the Brotherhood they represent.
Tenet III — Never Compromise the Brotherhood
The actions you take as a Levantine Assassin must never bring harm to another member of the Brotherhood.
Confidential information must not be revealed to outsiders. Disclosing our secrets may threaten the safety of our members, weaken our operations and compromise the Brotherhood as a whole.
Every Assassin therefore carries a responsibility to protect the organisation, its knowledge and the lives of those serving beside them.
Old Ways into New
This address was dedicated to carrying the Brotherhood’s founding tenets into the future.
The Brotherhood must continue adapting to an ever-changing world, but adaptation must not require the abandonment of the principles upon which it was built. The tenets remain essential to its continuation and survival.
We must move forward rather than retreat into the past. Only by looking towards the future can the Brotherhood continue to develop and evolve.
Each tenet serves an individual purpose:
- The first protects innocent life and preserves the morality of our cause.
- The second protects our operations through discipline and concealment.
- The third protects the Brotherhood itself and those who belong to it.
Together, they continue to support and guide every Assassin within the Brotherhood.
Members may remain, and others may eventually depart, but the Brotherhood must continue under leaders who seek to inspire and guide those within it.
There is light at the end of the path. We need only reach it together.
